JUNE 2014 BONEHEAD ABSURDITY OF THE MONTH

clip_image001

1.   This tidbit comes from Texas Governor, Rick Perry, in a speech to the Comstock Club in San Francisco:

"I may have the genetic coding that I'm inclined to be an alcoholic, but I have to desire not to do that-- and I look at the homosexual issue the same way."

2.  In a television appearance on the CBS This Morning show, Secretary of State John Kerry said that if Edward Snowden were a “patriot”, he would return to the United States from Russia to face criminal charges.
.
“This is a man who has betrayed his country,” Kerry told CBS News. “He should man up and come back to the US.”

Man up?  Return to face charges?  The 1917 Espionage Act, doesn't distinguish between sharing information with the press in the public interest of selling secrets to a foreign enemy.  Thus it would be impossible for Snowden to argue that the information should never have been withheld from the American public in the first place.  The fact that the disclosures led to historic reforms in the US and around the world, even motivating Republicans and Democrats to politically cooperate, and earned Snowden journalism awards would be irrelevant to his prosecution under the Espionage Act. He thus could not prove the disclosures served the public good.  Moreover, he could face unlimited charges, including being charged for each of the documents published.  It would take not a man, but a fool to return to face criminal charges.

3.   You can always count of Ann coulter to live up to her bonehead tradition.
This is what she recently wrote in the Clarion Ledger:

"If more “Americans” are watching soccer today, it’s only because of the demographic switch effected by Teddy Kennedy’s 1965 immigration law. I promise you: No American whose great-grandfather was born here is watching soccer. One can only hope that, in addition to learning English, these new Americans will drop their soccer fetish with time."

This was a tough one.  However, using past logic to qualify bonehead absurdities uttered by certified boneheads whose ignorance, racism, and bigotry produces repeated absurdities, the June winner is John Kerry.  Make no mistake, this choice wasn't totally by default: Kerry earned it.  His diatribe against Snowden is mystifying since it came from the same person who gained national notoriety as a leader of the veterans against the Vietnam War.  Kerry was an outspoken critic of the Vietnam War, which he claimed was an illegal action by a secret government that lied to, and deceived, the American people.  What in the hell has happened to John Kerry?

  1. I’m glad you picked up on John Kerry, I was worried that was missing last month.

But hey now, let’s not be mean to John Kerry. The poor old creature is still struggling to discover what it means to be a man. And if he ever manages that, then he’ll still need to figure out what he is. At his age, this condition deserves more pity than mocking.

This moral flea voted for the Patriot Act. If it wasn’t for this man (sic) and others like him, Edward Snowden would never had to have done what he did.

This opportunistic chameleon “voted for Iraq before he voted against it.” That was after he was the supposed anti-war man who threw his medals back (maybe) but before he voted for manly force in Grenada, Panama, Somalia, Kosovo, and probably several others that I forgot about.

This shifty weather vane twisting in the wind was against welfare reform before he voted for it. This is the “man” that is against the Defense of Marriage Act and against gay marriage rights both. Is this man for or against the death penalty? Absolutely.

Let’s remember this plastic-surgery-enhanced talking head was “not man enough” to beat George W. Bush in an election. When you go up against George W Bush in *anything* and W comes out “the better man”, then… wow. Just… wow.

So if it ever turns out that John Kerry was somehow even partially correct about even a single aspect of what it actually means to be a real man, I’ll get a sex change. He ain't no man to me.
